I Love Charlotte Limpa

On the first Saturday of April, the Queen City recieved a very special community service from youth members of TheJesus Ministry, Inc..... a city wide cleanup/beautifucation day.  Members from this youth cleanup brigade could be seen walking along Albermarle road in East Charlotte picking up debris along the street. ' I Love Charlotte Limpa' is the name of the annual community servie event sponsored by Jesus Ministries.  We send a heartfelt THANK YOU to these young people for their BIG contribution to our city.  Keeping Charlotte beautiful is truly an important responsibility for all Charlotteans.  These young people are a shining example of what can be done to make a positive change in local community.

Urban Gardens at Garinger Lend Support to Friendship Trays in East Charlotte

Students at Garinger High School are able to participate in this aquaponics garden where they will learn lessons in ecology, science and biology.  These students will also share the harvest from this garden to lend support for  the Charlotte Friendship Trays program which will give them a powerful lesson in building sustainable community.

Delicious Second Helping Now Served In East Charlotte

There are quite a few new restaurants and cafes popping up along the Central Avenue, East Charlotte corridor.   The Second Helping Carry Out and Catering Kitchen, located at 2903-C  Central Ave., brings a wonderful combination of delicious "eats" and  special connections to the local community.

Family style meals is the specialty being shared each week at Second Helping.  The menu is chocked full of  southern favorites like shrimp and grits, fried chicken, meat loaf and cornbread. And don't forget they offer vegetarian entrees too!!  The homestyle, made from scratch, vegetarian sides include collard greens, southern cooked greenbeans and lots more. To round out  the amazing meals provided at this shop, Second Helping has now partnered with Neet's Sweets to  offer incredible desserts.  Now that's a truly yummy duo!!

Customers can come by Second Helping  Monday thru Friday 11a -2p or 4:30 - 7p  to pick up their meal. Pre-ordered  meals can  be delivered to one of three Charlotte locations. Second Helping also offers catering services to  community residents and organizations.   Their catering service include Box Lunches, Buffet spreads and Custom Event options.  And no matter how you have your "second helping" served it will be prepared by caring hands!!

The delicious meals prepared at Second Helping are not the only special offerings of this amazing kitchen. The Second Helping mission is to offer  supportive employment opportunities to women working to create new futures after incarceration.  These ladies are working together to  provide"Food for the Soul" as they say and build a beautiful future.

Your Destiny ...Community Childcare focused on a Positive Future

Your Destiny Afterschool Program
Your Destiny AfterSchool and Summer Camp program is located at 7212 Albermarle Rd. in East Charlotte.  The program director, Ms Ivey, developed Your Destiny to provide  an educational afterschool program for school age youth in grades kindergarten thru 8th.   Your Destiny also offers a full day summer camp programs for local youth.  The goal of all the programs offered by Your Destiny is creating a positive and supportive environment where students can learn and grow, leading to a successful future. It is their DESTINY!

The Your Destiny Afterschool Program provides homework support and fun activities that are educationally based.  Computer time, exercise and interactive games round out the afternoons before parent pickup.   Students are given a  nutritious snack each afternoon to bridge their dietary needs until they reach home.

Your Destiny is also offering an All Day Campers program for children three four and five years old that have completed potty training  During the day these students will  be engaged in academic activities during the day that will prepare them for success when they start school.


During the summer break Your Destiny offers a wonderful Summer Camp program to  school children. Students who attend this program are assigned to small groups based on their grade level.  Each day the students work with a NC licensed teacher in core curriculum subjects like math and reading to prepare them for the upcoming school year.  Summer Campers also participate in computer time, community trips,  outdoor games and more.
